Gamelan Galak Tika performs new and traditional works for Balinese gamelan. We have four sets of gamelans: a traditional Balinese gong kebyar, a Balinese gender wayang quartet, an chamber gamelan from Banyuwangi, Java, and our Beta Gamelan, a set of instruments designed by Evan Ziporyn with a tuning resembling the Balinese slendro tuning, but actually tuned in Just Intonation with a perfect A and E (to make the instruments match better with Western tunings).
Besides concerts, we offer lecture/demonstrations and workshops in Balinese music and dance, including workshops in the Balinese monkey chant, the kecak.
