EMPAC @ RPI

Gamelan Galak Tika and Ensemble Robot perform at the opening of RPI's new Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, NY. Recently featured in the New York Times, EMPAC is an amazing new concert hall and performing arts center. Our performance as part of Homecoming Weekend will featuring a marching Beleganjur across campus (Balinese metal marching music), Evan Ziporyn's rock-gamelan classic Tire Fire, Christine Southworth's Balinese-robot-rock extravaganza Heavy Metal, and Ramon Castillo's wild new Agak-Agak for Beta gamelan and electronics. Special guests will include the fabulous Eddie Whalen & David Wade on guitar, Blake Newman on bass, Erik Nugent on EWI (electronic wind synth), and Matt Van Brink on accordion. Come hear this FREE concert as part of the opening of this beautiful new space at RPI!

Our MIT fall extravaganza, featuring a series of fantastic new works plus traditional Balinese music and dance, with special guests master dancers I Made Bandem and Ni Lu Suasti Widjaja! This husband and wife team has been at the forefront of Balinese dance for over 20 years, and as a tribute to them we will perform Puspanjali, a welcome dance choreographed by Ibu Suasti, performed by her dance students at Holy Cross. The program will also feature topeng (masked dance), and new works by Ramon Castillo, Midori Matsuo, Sachi Sato, Christine Southworth, and Po-Chun Wang. Don't miss this concert!

Tickets $15 adults, $10 students/seniors, and $5 for children under 12 and MIT and Harvard students. $2 discount per ticket for advance purchase - online tickets will be available here in mid-October.
